KYBELLA KIT

The first and only FDA-approved nonsurgical treatment that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness, sometimes referred to as “double chin”. Includes 4 vials which can be used as an individual treatment or over multiple sessions as determined by the physician.

Kybella® is a prescription medicine used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called “double chin.” It is not known if Kybella® is safe and effective for use outside of the submental area.

Submental fullness, sometimes referred to as “double chin”, is a common yet undertreated facial aesthetic condition. It can impact a broad range of adults, including both men and women, and can be influenced by several factors such as aging, genetics and weight gain, and is often resistant to diet and exercise alone.

If you’re bothered by submental fullness, you’re not alone. According to a 2014 survey conducted by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS): 68% of people said they’re bothered by under-the-chin fullness, or double chin.

People are just as bothered by under-the-chin fullness as they are by lines and wrinkles around and under their eyes.

HOW IT WORKS
The active ingredient in Kybella® is deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, Kybella® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. You and your doctor will decide how many treatments you need. Once the desired aesthetic response is achieved with Kybella®, retreatment is not expected.
Tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements. Especially tell your healthcare provider if you take a medicine that prevents the clotting of your blood (antiplatelet or anticoagulant medicine).

Benefits of a Kybella® Treatment

The Kybella® treatment is a brand-new FDA-approved procedure designed to remove extra fat below the chin, commonly known as a “double chin.”   The body naturally produces deoxycholic acid, so Kybella® is simply an intensification of a routine process to melt away fat in this area. Because Kybella® is a powerful substance, only a properly licensed medical doctor should administer it, but done properly, patients can see extra chin fat rapidly reduced, restoring their natural profile.

Unlike Botox or other dermal fillers the Kybella® procedure is permanent. Once that extra chin fat has been melted away by Kybella®, it will not return. After undergoing a Kybella® procedure, you should expect to begin seeing positive results in as little as three or four weeks.

Candidates for Kybella®

Kybella® is only approved for patients in South Carolina and the surrounding area who have a moderate to severe amount of extra fat in and beneath their chins. Kybella® does not work on other parts of the face, and is not designed to help obese patients lose weight. Right now, the procedure is recommended for otherwise healthy adults who have no infections, swelling, or injuries to the chin area.

Kybella® is not recommended for people:

  • Who are pregnant or nursing
  • Who are under age 12
  • Who are heavy smokers
  • Who are taking blood clotting medication
  • Who have a blood clotting disorder
  • Who have recently undergone surgery under general anesthesia
  • Who have had surgery in the area of the chin or neck
  • Who are taking prescription medications that can interfere with Kybella®
  • Who have a rash, infection, or injury to the chin

Kybella® Procedure

The procedure consists of multiple injections of deoxycholic acid underneath the skin, directly into the fat tissues that you want to remove. Your doctor may make a dozen or more injections during the procedure to ensure that the Kybella® is evenly distributed in the fat tissue.

Usually, a second treatment will be scheduled a month after the first one. Most patients see substantial results after just two or three treatments, with some patients needing as many six to completely remove all extra chin fat.

Kybella® Recovery

Kybella® solely works on reducing the amount of fat in your chin, and so will not affect your skin at all. Most patients feel minimum discomfort after undergoing a Kybella® procedure, although there may be some residual numbness while the anesthesia wears off. Some patients experience mild discomfort in the form of tenderness or redness in the chin, but this normally dissipates in a day or two.

Administering Kybella® is a relatively painless procedure, lasting about 15-30 minutes. You’ll be able to go home the same day as you undergo the procedure, and be able to return to work or school the next day without any issues. Some patients prefer to schedule their Kybella® procedure for the afternoon just to be sure that they can return home to recover from the minor swelling and tenderness that can occur after a treatment.

There is a small risk of a “hardening” of the area after undergoing the Kybella® procedure, which can be reduced using massaging techniques to the affected area. The FDA has also warned that there is a small risk of some patients developing a nerve injury to the jaw which could affect facial muscles.
