Everything You Need To Know About Laser Hair Removal Using Sciton Laser
If you have been debating laser hair removal, you are at the right place.
Other methods for hair removal like waxing, shaving, tweezing, or threading only temporarily remove hair, and are very time-consuming and costly. Not only does laser hair removal help to remove unwanted hair, but it can also help with ingrown hair and skin discoloration.
A majority of our patients notice that the hair is finer and less noticeable after one treatment.
How It Works?
Laser hair removal works by sending the light of the laser through the pigment in the hair. The light converts to heat which damages and slows the growth of the hair follicles. Patients with blonde, gray and red hair are not candidates for laser hair removal due to the lack of melanin/pigment in the hair. Because hair follicles are at all different stages of growth, it requires multiple treatments to target the hair that is in its active growth stage. It takes a couple of weeks after your first treatment to see a difference, and 8-12 treatments to get the full results.
Most people report a 90 percent permanent reduction in hair growth but hormones and medications can stimulate hair growth. To ensure hair stays away, maintenance treatments are recommended two to three times a year
Benefits of Laser Hair Removal
- Removes hair from any part of the body
- It is a safe and effective alternative to traditional hair removal methods
- Depending on the body part, the treatment is pain-free or of a little discomfort
- Prevents ingrown hairs and irritation by encouraging the hair to grow straight
- Skin will be clearer and smoother after each treatment
Pre-Treatment Considerations
- The treated area must be cleanly shaved 24-48 hours prior to treatment
- Electric razors are not recommended because the hair is typically left too long and uneven
- Do not tweeze, wax or pluck the area being treated between or prior to sessions. Only shaving is recommended
- Please come to your appointments free from makeup, deodorant and lotion
- Avoid sun exposure 4 weeks prior to treatment
- Self tanning products cannot be used 2-3 weeks prior to treatment. Shaving and exfoliating will help to remove any residual product
- Any sun sensitizing medications like antibiotics should not be consumed 2 weeks prior to treatment
- Discontinue use of scrubs and any topical skin care products containing retinol, alpha/beta hydroxy acids and benzoyl peroxide three to five days prior to treatment
Post Treatment Information
- Dead hair will begin to shed 3-5 days after your treatment. Shaving is recommended to speed up the hair-shaving process
- Immediately after your treatment, you may experience redness and sensitivity. A cold compress is given and can be used until sensitivity has subsided
- The heat from the laser stays in your skin for 24 hours after treatment. That means, no gym, saunas, beach, or hot showers
- Avoid makeup, lotion, and deodorant 24 hours post treatment or until the sensitivity is gone
- Avoid the sun 4 weeks after treatment and ALWAYS wear sunscreen at all times
- Do not use any other hair removal methods or products on the treated areas during the course of your treatment. It could prevent you from achieving the best result possible
