Who Qualifies for Sclerotherapy?
With so many treatments available for such a wide variety of issues these days, it can be difficult to know whether any particular treatment could be right for you. However, some treatments are well-liked by a majority of practitioners for a particular problem. These treatments then become known as the gold standard because they are held in such high regard and are safe and effective nearly across the board. One such amazing treatment is sclerotherapy.
What is Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is a minimally-invasive option for treating spider veins. It has been used for years and is considered to be incredibly safe. It is also effective in the vast majority of cases.
During this treatment, a practitioner will inject a special liquid known as a sclerosing solution into the vein, causing the vein walls to become irritated and swollen before closing. Once closed, the vein will gradually die and be reabsorbed by the body over time.
Who is a Good Candidate?
Even though sclerotherapy is considered to be the gold standard of treatment for visible veins, it may not be right for everyone. It is typically used on medium to large spider veins. However, very small veins may not be treated with it because they will be too small to receive the injection. In such cases, our Sciton® laser treatment could do the trick.
You are considered to be a prime candidate if you have moderately sized visible veins in your legs, have not had blood clots in the past and are in good overall health. The results of a proper sclerotherapy treatment on a good candidate should be quite amazing. Although other spider veins may appear on your body over time, the treated veins will never reappear.
