What Should You Avoid After Juvederm?

Aging, sun damage, smoking, and a host of other factors can lead to older-looking skin. At Lux: A Medical Spa in Bluffton, SC, we believe everyone should be confident and comfortable in their own skin. That’s why we are proud to offer Juvederm, the safest, most effective dermal filler on the market. But what should you avoid before and after treatment to ensure the best possible results?

What Should I Avoid Before Treatment?

Before treatment, it is absolutely essential that you avoid taking aspirin and any NSAID, including ibuprofen. You should avoid these medications for five days prior to your treatment.

You should also avoid certain dietary supplements for seven to 10 days before your treatment. These include St. John’s wart, garlic, ginseng, ginkgo Biloba, omega supplements (omega-3, omega-6, fish oil, and others), and vitamin E. During your initial consultation, we will provide you with a complete list of what to avoid prior to your Juvederm treatment.

What Should I Do Before Treatment?

For three days prior to your treatment, we strongly recommend that you consume at least one cup of fresh pineapple or pineapple juice. One particular enzyme abundant in fresh pineapple will ensure you do not bruise or swell during treatment.

If the acidity from pineapple burns or numbs your tongue, look for Arnica Montana. This supplement is also highly effective for ensuring positive treatment outcomes. Hold five tablets under your tongue thrice daily or follow the instructions on the package for the best results.

What Should I Avoid After a Juvederm Treatment Session?

Heat

After your treatment, avoid excessive heat. This includes saunas, steam rooms, showers, tanning beds, standing over a pot of boiling water, and prolonged exposure to the sun. You should also avoid vigorous exercise for the first 24 hours after your treatment. This causes excessive amounts of blood to rush to your face.

Medications and Supplements

Avoid the medications and supplements listed above for two weeks after your treatment. If for any reason you feel discomfort during those two weeks, take Tylenol. This will ensure bruising will not occur. Moreover, to mitigate the risk of swelling, use Arnica Montana gel or pills as instructed on the package.

Sipping

If you received treatment to plump up thin lips, avoid using a straw immediately after treatment.

Cosmetics

You are free to apply any makeup you want after treatment. However, you must wear broad-spectrum SPF 35 sunscreen before you go outside. This protects your skin from sun spots, wrinkles, skin cancer, and more. Be sure to follow all instructions regarding re-application, even if you think it is unnecessary.
