Visible veins on your legs are referred to as spider veins or reticular veins, and are defined medically by size. Spider veins are small blue to red veins of the skin, and are located primarily on the feet, ankles and legs. They can sometimes be seen on the chest, arms, abdomen and face. Luckily there are vein treatments for these veins.
Spider veins are inherited, and may represent a more serious underlying abnormal circulation problem. Standing for long periods of time and standing on hard surfaces such as cement will often exacerbate a preexisting condition. If not corrected, spider veins always become more abundant and unsightly. Leg veins are genetic and can be found on approximately 70% of females and 40% of males.
A popular method of vein treatment is Sclerotherapy. A sclerosing agent is injected via a tiny needle into the veins, which causes sclerosis or irritation of the lining of the vessel that leads to its closure. Much like resolution of a bruise, this process causes a gradual fading of the vessel over a period of several weeks to several months.
LUX~A Medical Spa commonly uses the Sciton Laser for the treatment of spider veins. This is a very comfortable treatment which does not require anesthesia. During the procedure, the laser emits pulses of light which are absorbed by the red blood cells in the vein without any significant spread to the surrounding tissues.
The energy heats the vein, causing it to close. The Sciton Laser is equipped with a special cooling plate that provides cooling during and after each laser pulse, thus maximizing the patient’s comfort. Patients often describe a sensation during treatment that is similar to the snap of a rubber band.
There is no downtime after the laser vein treatment near me and patients are able to immediately resume their normal routine. Some minor swelling and redness may be present but this typically fades within a few hours. Risks are generally rare but may include blister, infection and scarring.
