Dr. McGowan is a board-certified Dermatologist and ACMS fellowship-trained Mohs micrographic surgeon. He is a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and completed his dermatology residency at the Medical University of South Carolina. After residency, Dr. McGowan completed his fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery and at the Dayton Skin Surgery Center.
Dr. McGowan also completed an ACGME-accredited procedural dermatology fellowship, where he received special training in cosmetic dermatology, laser surgery and aesthetic surgery. He has authored numerous articles and has lectured at many national professional meetings on skin cancer and reconstructive surgical techniques.
In addition to his love for medicine, Dr. McGowan is also an accomplished singer, songwriter, and pianist. He was classically trained in piano performance and attended conservatory at the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts during high school. Since then, he has released several albums of original music. Dr. Joe’s music draws from many genres, including classical, Americana, gospel, R&B, country and retro-pop. His debut album is Dirt Road Revival is available on Spotify and iTunes. Dr. McGowan was recently for consideration for the 61st annual Grammy awards in 4 categories for his song, “Sweet Talk”.
